Almost great...not quite there

This book is very detailed in the history of the Stratocaster and has some good historical information about Fender and CBS. Great detail for learning how to date a Stratocaster (especially for those novices looking to buy on Ebay). The information is chronologically presented and the text formatting is inconsistent. The b&w photos are printed poorly.

This book is in serious need of an update (it references through Stratocasters manufactured in 1993). There is also a purist approach to not consider Fender's 2nd line (the Squier Brand) which has (in some people's opinions), higher quality than what carried the Fender name (at least in the mid-80's).

In the absence of a better publication, I highly recommend this book.

The Fender Stratocaster: foreword by Eric Clapton There is a wealth of information here but much of it is poorly presented. Spelling errors on almost every page along with very poor quality photos give a very amateurish feel to what could be a well researched book. Wiring schematics that need a magnifying glass to examine could have been enlarged or left out. I'd like to see the new improved model.

Only experienced Klingon speakers will be able to fully appreciate the nuances of the Klingon-language version, but for anyone who has dabbled in the language, this is an excellent opportunity to acquire large chunks of authentic text to practice on. Most of the vocabulary used can be found in either The Klingon Dictionary or Klingon for the Galactic Traveler.

For non-Klingon speakers, there is Shakespeare's original text, an English-language introduction, and detailed endnotes, very wittily presented. These put forward the case that Shakespeare himself was a Klingon, and underline the essentially Klingon nature of this famous play, with its themes of honor and revenge. In creating the tragic figure of Hamlet, with his very un-Klingon propensity for brooding and procrastination, Shakespeare is believed to have been commenting on a culture becoming alienated from its traditional warlike virtues, and we are told that most Klingons find it a deeply disturbing play.

All in all, this is a very clever, well-presented interpretation of one of the world's most famous plays. Conversation Piece for Literature Class

When we were told we could bring any old copy of Hamlet in for our dramaturgy class, I took the assignment literally. Needless to say, bringing Khamlet to class made for plenty of textual analysis to go 'round, not just about Hamlet, but about how Hamlet has been produced, performed and interpreted throughout the ages. You'll definately want to work on your pronounciation before showing it off, however, as you'll be asked to read Khamlet's soliloquy aloud in the original tlhIngan Hol. Also, Khamlet brings out the best in people: I discovered that two of my classmates and the professor were Trek-fans! The only thing preventing this from being five stars is that the book doesn't annotate either copy of the play as student copies do. That might not be a big deal for most people, but when I'm reading classic literature, I like having notes to explain some of the more esoteric references and changed meanings.

Perfect in its own way, and thought-provoking

What a mad, hilarious enterprise this is. If anyone thinks this is merely a discharge of nerdishness, let them try and translate a whole Shakespeare play in ANY language - let alone one in which expressions and ways of thought have to be invented along with metre and rhyme. And as a matter of fact, this is not merely a well-made piece of whimsy: the emphasis of its "critical" parts on the warrior identity of "Khamlet" and the meaning of his sense of disgrace provide a useful, thought-provoking contrast to much of the "terran" critical tradition, which tends to neglect that Hamlet is a prince, a swordsman, a potential military leader, and that the warrior Fortinbras thought that "He was likely, had he been put on/ To have proved most royal".

At last, the original Hamlet!

Finally, the general public can read Shakespeare as he should be read--in the warrior's tongue. This book, formerly only available to humans in a small run in hardback, is now out in paperback, far more accessible to students of Klingon culture. Hamlet is an insightful tale of an earlier time and a royal house fallen into such indecision and intrigue that even revenge is hesitant--a truly disturbing work.
To step back from the conceit of Wil'yam Shax'pir as Klingon dramatist and keen observer of the Klingon culture, the study and development of tlhInganHol is an amazing work, at least equaling Tolkien's linguistic inventions, and the translation of Hamlet is a true labor of lo--er, honor. I would buy a video/DVD of a performance of Hamlet in Klingon (with English subtitles) in a heartbeat, and I hope that otther works of Shakespeare are "restored."

Odd and stimulating

This is a fine reprint. An architect loaned me the original many years ago, and I never forgot reading it. Edwards' philosophy of aesthetics begins with the body, manners, and dress--social considerations--and finally gets around to architecture and painting and sculpture, an unexpected approach.

Middle Book in Latest Paranormal Romance

The second book in the Guardians trilogy finds our group of six in Capri searching for the second falling star. The one concentrates of the romance between Sawyer and Annika. This is a romance that seemingly has a built-in ending date. Annika is a mermaid who was given legs so that she could take part in the quest to find the stars but will return to the sea in three months without them. Sawyer has a device that lets him travel in space and time.

Sawyer is reluctant to begin a relationship with Annika for a number of reasons. The primary one for him is that Annika is new to life on land and dealing with humans. He sees her as an innocent in need of protection. Despite her lack of familiarity with humans, Annika is a woman who knows what she wants.

Our villain, the dark goddess Nerezza, has found herself a human partner in Andre Malmon who is a bored killer who has had previous run-ins with Sawyer and with Riley. If he weren't so irredeemably evil, I could feel sorry for him because his relationship with Nerezza changes him for the worse. But Malmon makes his bargain eagerly and ends up changed and enslaved to her.

Since one of the main viewpoint characters in this one isn't human, we get a lot of Annika's joy and curiosity. We also get a lot of opportunities to see her struggling with idioms and customs of humans. For example, she has a very different way of dealing with nakedness and talking about sex. Luckily, her new sisters Riley and Sasha are there to clear up some of her confusion.

Again, this story is trademark Roberts in the relationships she builds between the characters and their acceptance of each others strengths and weaknesses. Friendships matter in a Roberts book. I can't wait to read the next one both to see the end to their quest and to see the relationship that is coming next.

Not what they used to be...

Nora Roberts was always one of my favorite authors and with trilogies like Three Sister Island, the Key series, the Seven series, Dance of the Gods, Jewels series, etc, I enjoyed the books tremendously. But this series (and the Cousins O'Dwyer) don't quite have the same punch as past trilogies. It feels like a lot of thought and detail have been left out to make them shorter and easier to write...and apparently they feel they need to be easier to read. I'll finish the series since I've started it, but at this point I'll give it some serious thought before starting the next one. So much detail seems to be missing as compared to past ones.

Nora Roberts is getting to be redundant, sadly. I have always been a HUGE fan of hers, but these trilogies all sound the same, especially the supernatural series'. I know they sell, and the books are a success, but I think that has FAR more to do with the Nora Roberts brand than it does with the actual stories. This series is pretty much the same as The Circle Trilogy, The Signs Trilogy, The Sisters, the Cousins,....and so on. Change the names and its just the same thing over and over. It's a huge bummer, as I have LOVED her stuff for years.

A compilation of 101 articles written on subjects related to network marketing or direct sales. Nothing special here!

I thought this book was OK. The article contributors could certainly write well, so I can't be fair and still give it 3 stars. However, I was hoping to find a book between the covers of this "thing." I think if the authors, two sisters and another woman, had read the articles included in this book and used them as research for writing a book, then they could have written a wonderful book. Unfortunately, there was too much overlap on some issues and some holes on others. There certainly is no overall thesis to the book that is explained and proven by the writing.

The authors are veteran network marketers who have teamed up together to form a trade association they call "Direct Selling Women's Alliance" (DSWA dot org). The book is clearly a marketing piece they have thrown together in order to promote their organization. Apparently it has worked well because I suspect the membership in their organization has showered it with favorable book reviews on Amazon. I cannot think of any other possible explanation for its overall 5-star rating from 21 reviewers.

The network marketing industry is full of home-based entrepreneurs. The people who succeed at networking marketing can (1) sell product, (2) recruit salespeople to join THEIR sales organization, (3) lead the sales organization they build, and (4) manage THEIR sales organization. I had hoped this book would have explained this in some detail. Instead, all of this was touched upon, but not clearly. Also, there was too much inspirational fluff included.

There are four books that I think would serve the reader well if they are interested in becoming successful at direct sales:

PS. There is a Part II to this book entitled "More Build It Big" (ISBN: 9781419520037). It includes another batch of 101 articles. And it is written the same way as this book was.

Some OK tips, but mostly common sense

I was interested to get this but really REALLY disappointed when one of the first tips was to call 100 people. No kidding. I found this to be a lot of re-hash of old ideas. Some decent tips but you really have to search for them. Bad layout, too. Not easy to read. Lots of stuff sort of thrown at you. If you are really NEW to sales, you might benefit but most of it you can get through better books or free in internet searches, your team leader, etc.
