The magic of not being "normal"

This is a lovely story of a young man with ADHD who gets into the kind of unbelievable trouble that can happen to those with "butterfly brains" and is rescued by a man who is a "science geek" Neither of them is really "normal" and they are both very sweet as they see what is wonderful about the other. They both grow as people gaining self understanding and courage along the way.

One of my dearest friends has ADHD and Amy Lane captures some of the magic of them in this story. Wonderful connections with nature, joy and awe, and endless energy to do good that produces results over time. I like that she points out that most people with ADHD are smart. This has certainly been my experience knowing several people who have ADHD. They just need a few adaptations to focus on one task to completion. My friend used to have a a sign that said "Dear God, I can explain."

In the midst of discovering each other, they have a mystery of what is causing frogs to be deformed, crazy ex-boyfriend troubles, bad sex and good sex, and an absent father pulled together in a good plot.

Whiskey is soooo smoothe!!!

Wow, I just finished my review with the Paranormal Romance Guilds Dual Review Team, of Amy Lanes August release of A Solid Core of Alpha and here I am in September doing a solo review for her newest release Clearwater. What are the odds???

Reading this newest story, my first thought was I found a human Whim...Do you remember Lithia's Constant Whim? A novella from the world of the Little Goddess series?. Whim is described by the author As Constant as a bumblebee in a hurricane and as faithful as a stray breeze. Enter Patrick Cleary.

We are taught through Amy Lanes eyes what ADHD is, and how it affects the minds of people who are afflicted with it. But, we are taught in the only way Amy Lane knows, through love, family and heart.

We meet Patrick Cleary who has decided he is a mess. He has been advantaged financially all his life, living off a rich Daddy, having the `best of everything' and not being honest with his father or himself. When that day finally arrives, will anyone take him seriously?

Wesley `Whiskey' Keenen, is a biologist, living on the dirtiest, tackiest houseboat in the middle of a delta swamp. He is there with fellow biologist and friend Freya nicknamed Fly Bait, running tests on mutant frogs. He sees a car careening off a bridge one evening, as he sits out side looking at the stars.. He watches in horrer as the driver swims away leaving the unconscious passenger to die. Whiskey pulls the passenger out and saves his life. This is their story.

Again Amy Lane has yet again detoured from her accustomed path and has not only written a wonderful love story of patience and trust, but she has entwined all of it adding a good mystery whodunit. Whiskey is as sexy as his name sounds. He brings such strength into the growing relationship, you cannot help but love him.

Patrick thinks himself a giant screw up, there is not a moment where he is not falling or bunking himself...a giant Klutz. But as Whiskey watches this slip of a man, he `gets it'. He sees more control when Patrick takes his meds . They grow into a friendship that could lead to more. Patrick does not want to leave the houseboat, he does not want to contact his father Shawn. He has found something here and loves helping with the frogs he has befriended and even named.
I loved how we see Patrick grow, and then we get into the findings of the pollution in the swamps which leads us to the bigger mysteries. Again the story was paced beautifully, the character ensemble was great...With Amy stories, as always the good are good and the bad are truly evil. I loved it when Patrick with some prodding from Whiskey can find his true beauty within. Totally a fun read

Chemistry graduate students and researchers who uses optical spectroscopy will find this book very valuable and useful.
The author is an expert in the field and he clearly explains the fundamentals of various techniques from steady-state absorption to pump-probe techniques. Interestingly, although nanosecond and femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopies are widely used in the physical chemistry research, there are not many books that deal with the techniques themselves. Typically students learn these techniques and inherit the knowledge about them from someone in the lab, who "think" that they know what they are doing. While those knowledges are surely helpful. they are usually not adequate. I have met many students who know how to run their own instruments, but who have no idea how the instruments generally works. This book is for those who really want to learn the techniques and their basics.

Time Life Library of Art - Complete Set of 28 Books is the biggest bargain in appreciation and history of art ever, especially now as the books are widely available used.

The World of Giotto, by Sarel Eimerl.

The Arena Chapel at Padua is something like the world would not see again until Michaelangelo painted the Sistine 200 years later. The world may some day see the third act.

Eimerl displays the art world just before Giotto entered it, until just after his exit. This is a feature of all the books in the set, we see in detail how each volume's subject relates to their universe. Yet, never are we subjected to artificial additives: i.e. topics socially relevant today which were irrelevant during the age in study. Truth in art is beauty and this is beautiful study of Giotto is my favorite from the Time Life set.

By the way, Giotto was a family man, and there are some well known historical quotes displaying a sharp wit: Dante asked him why he produced beautiful frescoes and yet plain children. His famous reply: 'I made them in the dark'.

Everyone has read these columns in the dentist waiting room, and I have to agree with Karl in that the majority of Agony Aunts or Advice Columnists are without exception patronising, condescending and pretentious, providing the same type of namby-pamby, wishy-washy band-aid solution for just about every dilemma; “I’m sorry to hear what you’re going through, but you know life is full of ups and downs, I’m sure if you give it time …….” In short, they are no help whatsoever.

Not so Wiggins, for he has the Heaven-sent ability of being able to get right to the nitty-gritty in just a few sentences. His answers, however, are more often than not roll-on-the-floor hilarious.

Karl makes it absolutely clear that he’s no marriage guidance counsellor, psychotherapist, priest or vegetarian, but his adequacy to hand out solid advice is confirmed as soon as you start reading this book.

His advice is delivered in a humorous, occasionally impassioned and exasperated, yet always intuitive manner. Karl speaks from the heart and never, ever evades the issue. If you’re looking to read one of those family therapy books where the advisor hems and haws, and sits on the fence and tap-dances around the issue then stop right now. This is not the book for you.

But if you’re searching for straight-talking guidance on dating, marriage, cohabitation, divorce, sensuality, lust, and sexual urges then look no further. This is the book you’re after

Karl Wiggins does not tread warily around any issue whatsoever – racism, under-age sex, religious extremism, sexual violence. And he does not mince his words; Just the opposite in fact. I’ve known Karl for several years and I’ll tell you he dances towards trouble with a huge grin on his face, which is why I call him the Rascal-Sage. He is in truth a laughing, joking Shaman. The court jester but with all the respect of a sorcerer, for there’s always an element of danger lurking about beneath the surface of his smile, and when he’s angry he is truly a site to behold (Maybe that’s what attracts the reader).

Karl, thank you for being you, for not judging me, for seeing me as I truly am and for allowing me the honour of writing the forward to this book for you. But remember I’ve read the book and you are so naughty …. I’m going to pray for you.

Laugh Out Loud

I loved this book. I laughed at Karl's comments and I wish he really were an advice columnist so I could read him everyday. His common sense approach to the questions posed to advice columnists is refreshing. He is not politically correct - he is simply correct. If you want a good laugh I highly recommend this book.

He Really Is Full of Laughs

One of my favorite authors has done it again! Karl Wiggins takes on the role of Agony Aunt, or Uncle in this case, to supply would-be answers to the sados and sickos that seek help from advice columnists. It is amazing what some people write in and ask for advice on, and Wiggins shoots back the kind of no-nonsense advice that should be offered. His insight is hilarious and is in keeping with the humor I've come to love. In his usual style, he doesn't pull any punches which is what I like about his writing. It's not watered down to avoid upsetting the over sensitive. He is genuine, forthright, and perceptive. Whoever thought common sense could make you laugh so much! Highly recommended for a good laugh.

If you have not read any of Karl Wiggin's hilarious books, you're missing out on this author's unique and wonderful sense of humor. This book does not disappoint! I was cracking up at every turn of the page. I got this book as well for my father-in-law who needs more humor in his daily life. Don't miss this one!! Highly recommend!

Yes, it's Ajnas alright, but...

Let me begin by saying that there is value to this book merely because of the fact that it IS a translation of the Arabic Solomonic work Al-Ajnas by Berechiah. In that respect, it's very interesting and groundbreaking to now have translations being made from what is a vast trove of Arabic occult material whose elements, such as the Picatrix, inspired so much of our Western occult tradition. This, after all, is why I was eager to buy it. It does fulfill this in that it includes Arabic names of all the familiar (and some unfamiliar) Solomonic angelic and demonic hierarchy and is very much apparently an accurate translation of a never before seen work in English. With that said, however, I must express my extreme disappointment as to the tackiness of how it was presented, which suggests a sense of slight regard for the material and the tradition at hand. The pages of the book are printed with the downright cheesiest "weathered" pattern, full of pixellation and so much black smear, which serves to make the black and white pages look like cheap newsprint. It's like when you make a treasure map as a kid with plain typing paper and then take a cigarette lighter to burn the edges to make it look "old". All of this not only reduces the aesthetic appeal of the book, but also its academic and even spiritual appeal, as its effect smacks of the mass produced paperback Simon Necronomicon, and serves to class it at that level. When compared with similarly priced hardcover editions of other classic Solomonic works, such as those by Skinner and Peterson, this book really pales as an investment. If you're interested in seeing this as an example of Arabic occultism in the Solomonic tradition, it's far more worth it to find pdf or etext versions of Ajnas online than to invest in a physical version with this kind of appearance.

Fragmented but informative.

I would have to say that as a grimoire it works out well enough. The layout is relatively easy to deal with. However the manner in which the conjurations are written are less then pleasing. Leaving holes and gaps in the conjuration such to the like where the author intentionally leaves key parts out. More time then is having to track down the Arabic translations, as it is not a clear distinction of which names, words and various summons are supposed to maintain their origin dialect, and which ones the author has made English.

Much to the grimoire tradition these passages do some justice as to the origin of certain conjurations and exorcisms, it takes the reader some time to piece together the usable bits of information out of this work. Addressing to the same potency of some works contained there-in it hints at other paths then just the Allah singularity. However if you wanted to have a how to make use of the Koran in the most effective ways possible against the natural spirits I suppose this work is alright to do that.

I give it 3 stars as it will likely sit on my shelf for it lacks the finished information which it promises in its sales Description. It would have earned 4 if the work was complete, 5 if the translation in the text was clearly distinct from the Arabic and English versions, offering both up to the reader. If you want a project to tinker with, rebuilding, and rewriting like the Necronomicon of Simon, then this is the sort of book for you. Its expensive for what it is, at least the cover holds up well to dust.

Complicated Yet Workable

As a practicing Sorcerer for 20+ years, I am a grimoire nut & enjoy Sorcery in the Solomonic tradition even though I do not buy into the whole Judeo-Xian mythos. With that said I have often got results using Solomonic Sorcery whether it was with QBL Tree of Life Spirits OR the Spirits listed in the Lemegeton's Goetia.

With that said, I happened to interview Ninevah on my website & was excited about the forthcoming book, "Deadly Names" which I have & will write a review on at a later date. When I ordered that book from Ninevah's site, I saw this & ordered it as well. I was quite surprised at what appears to be more of a system that is spoken/incanted rather than talismanic/seal oriented like the Sloane manuals.

Rouhaniat Magic (re: Arabic Magic) relies more on spoken word repetition for result than the use of talismans like say the Goetia or Key of Solomon uses. Often you will summon a Djinn by repeating its name say 10,000 times which seems like a ridiculous amount but it can (& does) go quite quickly once you're into it & using some sort of method of counting like say a rosary.

I found the invocation on pages 28 for binding tongues to be useful. I had a client who told me she was being mercilessly tortured by some idiot at her place of work & asked me to do something for her. I decided to use this invocation for a period of seven days & I repeated it 7 times each day. She reported back to me that the woman's mean comments began to subside to the point after a couple of weeks, the woman left her completely alone. While it's not a immediate solution, it did work.

Why it may have taken so long to work is possibly because I did not work my way through the system & get properly initiated into it. Rhouhaniat is a results oriented system but that given, I do believe this book holds a lot more for the Solomonic tradition than most feel.

One of the annoying things is that it constantly uses 'Peace Be Upon Him' when the notes mention some historical holy figure like Moses, Solomon, Mohammed & the like but that's what many Rouhaniat practitioners did in ancient times. It's an Arabic thing of respect. Remember this is a manual that was translated from ancient Aramaic.

The back cover explains that this is a book that is based on the works of Asaph ben Berechiah who allegedly was the vizier to the real King Solomon - at least according to Islamic folklore. While I'm not interested in the mythology of Islam, Judaism or Xianity, I find the Magic of these systems fascinating. "Here's something forbidden!" Such magic was/is forbidden in Islamic culture then & now & many have died for their practicing this very sort of Magic.

The book DOES have seals listed though they tend to be like the seals in the Key of Solomon - covering groups of Spirits rather than individual ones such as the Goetia has.

It appears to be a complete system in & of itself. It differs from the Western Solomonic material in that it does not list equipment to be used which is presumably found in other Rouhaniat sources yet to be translated. For the practitioner like myself, I am confident to summon the Djinn using my own equipment. You may wish to delve into an understanding of Rouhaniat before you start to work with this manual.

Also, Djinns are notorious for being difficult to summon & control. They're hot tempered & angry a lot of the time. Thus is this a manual for the faint of heart? I would not recommend it for Novices but would not have a problem with someone who is an intermediate level student well versed in the Solomonic systems of the past to work with it, safely & get results.

Overall I gave it four out of five stars simply because it is a complex system but the book does not offer liner or end/foot-notes to help explain things.
